Commentaries- Sealkeeper 115

The following are the recorded responses of Eyazahrid to the feedback he received on the above listed chapter and the story in general for the week following. This document is to serve as a replacement to the traditional Author’s Note at the beginning and ending of chapters and will be kept separate from both the above listed chapter and any future chapters unless deemed sufficiently important.

This one looks like it will be quite a bit shorter than usual due to the glaring polarity of the reviews. I’ll address a few of them which should cover half the feedback chapter 115 received.

“Are the serpents going to get another chance to make a contract with Naruto? I really like them.”

Fret not, the Children of Au still have a role to play within the story.

“Yep, that’d be just like your Naruto to give Tsume his blessing since his priority is his Wolves’ happiness while believing Tsume is a better option than him for Mai. Daddy Tsukuyoki indeed. I can only imagine Mai’s reaction to this news and the vacation.

Personally, I’m just happy this subplot is hopefully reaching its conclusion. Going to be honest, although I tried my damnedest to pay attention, my eyes just kind of went through the motions of reading the second half of this chapter because my brain was still fixated on processing the first half the entire way through. I apologize, good sir.”

I’m glad it at least seemed to be in character, that’s slightly reassuring. It has indeed reached it’s conclusion, the feedback I’ve received first from Patrons and now from the public release has made it more than clear that I shouldn’t attempt anything complicated with relationships.

Nothing to apologize for.

“You know, I wish it wasn’t the case, but I really am over the relationships in this series. All of them. I’ve reached the point where I just don’t care anymore. Some were ignored and forever forgotten, some were developed in atrocious ways, others are treated with severity they don’t deserve, others are developed and forgotten. I’m just kind of over them. I really wish that feeling hadn’t slowly but surely started extending towards the story on the whole.”

I’ve recently finished the plans for the rest of Sealkeeper. All relationships have been removed now that my complete inability to write them has become apparent. After 116-A, there should be no further mentions of any relationship until Sealkeeper’s conclusion.

“Slow chapter, but well written nonetheless. I’d like to see more of Mai though; the situation with her has gotten me super restless to see a resolution to it. Naruto should get a wake-up call about Mai one of these days.”

Unfortunately you’ll probably be seeing less of Mai going forward as I focus more on naruto and his activities. Scenes involving other characters will be more limited and mostly serve as transitions or show crucial events as a common complaint is the pacing and how much I focus on B and C plots. Hopefully this should remedy that glaring issue.

The resolution to the Mai/Tsume/Naruto issue will be handled off-screen for expediency’s sake. Relationships will not be brought up for the rest of the story and are likely to be removed entirely when I get around to a rewrite sometime in the future.

  1. Hey Wicked A here long reading fan of yours I don’t know what the problem of others with the relationships in this story is and while I would like a more Naruto centric plot you ABSOLUTELY CAN’T just abolish them in this story, they’re what defines your Naruto and are what keep him grounded, unless you plan on making him an evil overlord that will kill his wolves in an attempt to gather power for them while cutting the ties to everyone that cares about him, you should MOST DEFINITELY keep some relationships around even if the Mai plot ends, I can’t imagine this story without them, how would he even interact with orochimaru, mikoto, and every other major character from this point onward if there were no longer any relationships? How would he keep the bijuu on his side without enforcing his control? Pls! As someone whom has read and enjoyed this fic for a long time pls keep the relationships around.
PS. The relationships here weren’t even badly written in fact if you take into account how most of the characters are emotionally stunted, this is pretty good and I DARE anyone to write something better for criticizing this WAY ABOVE average story telling!!!

    1. While I appreciate your support, the majority of my readers have major issues with the relationships I’ve attempted to incorporate in the story. As the outcry against those relationships far exceeds the outcry for the removal of them, the current solution is to move focus from relationships immediately.

They’ll still be there, they just won’t be actively seen or addressed. In a future rewrite of the story I would like to include the -very long- list of things I’ve removed from the story over the years.

Just to be clear, this is only for romantic aspects of relationships. The Parent/Child dynamic of Naruto and his Wolves and the friendships he has with others will still be seen as normal.
